The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit”

Khup Khen Thang

Session 1: Why do We Need the Holy Spirit? (1:30 hrs)
a)      The Promise of Jesus
Jesus told the disciples that after He returned to the Father He would send another Counselor (John 15:26, John 16:5-7). When Jesus said that He would send ‘another counselor’, the word ‘another’ here means ‘another of the same kind’. Jesus was saying that all that He had been to them the Spirit would continue to be once he had returned to the Father. I believe it is important for us as Christians to understand this role of the Holy Spirit.
b)     Illuminate to understand the Scripture
The Holy Spirit teaches us and reveals the truth of Scripture (John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 2:10-14). This teaching and revealing work of the Holy Spirit is often described as Illumination. Illumination does not concern the impartation of new knowledge, but a clarification of the text as it stands revealed and inspired by God. I believe that it is especially important for the new Christian to understand this teaching and illumination role of the Holy Spirit because the Bible makes it clear to understand the “deep things of God” we need the wisdom, teaching and illumination of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:6-16).
Session 2: A.  Indwelling the Holy Spirit in OT (1:30 hrs)
a)      He was in certain ones (Neh. 9:20; Isa. 63:10-11, 14)
After God chose Israel to be His people, the Spirit’s work was with that group primarily if not exclusively. Israel, of course, was a spiritually mixed nation with unbelievers as well as believers. Yet the Spirit ministered to the entire nation by being present and guiding the people
b)      The Spirit empowered
Samson; later the Lord left him (Judges 13:25; 16:20).
The Spirit came on Saul and later left him (1 Sam. 10:10; 16:14). Apparently there was no guarantee of permanent presence of the Spirit in Old Testament times.
c)      Limited as to eternality The Spirit empowered Samson; later the Lord left him (Judges 13:25; 16:20). The Spirit came on Saul and later left him (1 Sam. 10:10; 16:14). Apparently there was no guarantee of permanent presence of the Spirit in Old Testament times.
B. Indwelling the Holy Spirit in NT
a)      Empowering the life of the Believer (John 14:12; John 16:7; Acts 1:4,5)
b)      Indwelling and illumination of the Believer (Acts 1:4,5; Acts 2:41
c)      Teaching (John 16:13-14); John 14:26; John 15:26
d)     Intercessory work of the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:26-27)
e)      Sanctification in the life  of the believer ( Rom 8:1-17)
f)       Life in the Spirit ( Eph 4:23-32; Gal. 16-23)

Session 3: Indwelling the Holy Spirit in Nowadays (1:20 hrs)
a)      God’s Desire
I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My statutes, and you shall keep My judgments, and do them" (Ezekiel 36:26, 27) Joel 2:28, 29; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:32, 33
Prophecies have been dwelt upon, doctrines have been expounded; but that which is essential to the church in order that they may grow in spiritual strength and efficiency, in order that the preaching may carry conviction with it, and souls be converted to God, has been largely left out of ministerial effort" (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 174).
b)      Christ-like Character
The ambition of the believers was to reveal the likeness of Christ’s character and to labor for the enlargement of His kingdom" (The Acts of the Apostles, p. 48). Christ introduced a new commandment to His disciples, and He uttered it three times: "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34; 15:12, 17). It is the grace of Christ revealed in character and wrought out in good works. Whatever the profession, no man has pure love to God unless he has unselfish love for his brother. But we can never come into possession of this spirit by trying to love others. What is needed is the love of Christ in the heart" (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 384).
c)      To witness
"The Lord is more willing to give the Holy Spirit to those who serve Him than parents are to give good gifts to their children. For the daily baptism of the Spirit every worker should offer his petition to God. Companies should gather to ask for special help…(The Acts of the Apostles, p. 50). "When with earnestness and intensity we breathe a prayer in the name of Christ, there is in that very intensity a pledge from God that He is about to answer our prayer ‘exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think’ (Ephesians 3:20)" (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 147). We need the Holy Spirit because Jesus promised He would come, that we need Him to illuminate and help us to understand Scripture, to make us more Christ-like through the sanctification process and that the Holy Spirit equips us for service.  I also looked at how that Holy Spirit assures us we belong to God because He is God’s seal of ownership on us.
Nowadays, in so many places where the ministry is need, He is indwelling with the believer to spread the Gospel in Rwanda, thousands of thousand believers added, and the Holy Spirit indwelling among the people who are committed for His service He does the miracles when it is needed in the ministry.

SINS AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT by Khup Khen Thang

Sia Khup Khen Thang

Purpose: To understand more about sins against the Holy Spirit
Key text: Matthew 12: 31 “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

Introduction:
I am so glad that I have a chance to find and present regarding about sins against the Holy Spirit, one of the most frequently ask by the Christian regarding about “what is the unpardonable sin? And what is the sin against the Holy Spirit? This topic is a very sensitive topic among the Christians. I hope this topic will help and answer that kinds of question raised by the Christians. It will help us to understand more and deeper about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has the specific labor of dealing with men’s natures and bringing them to obtain the redemption and profit of Christ’s work. The Holy Spirit within among the saints and is existent in Lord’s churches. He also condemns the unsaved and attempts sinners. Because of His work in our lives and in our center of the heart, the Bible illusion certain sins that are committed against Him as He brings out His distinct task.  We must to be thoughtful to the risks of unpleasing the Spirit of God. Let’s us think and find the way how the people can lie the Spirit.

Body
I.             BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT
The word “blasphemy”  βλασφημία blasphemia (ɓlas-fee-miy'-a) revilement or vilification; it is especially against God. Jesus told how dangers of the unpardonable sin, that the unpardonable sin was doing the miracles performed by Jesus through the Holy Spirit, for the exactly purpose to revealed that He was the Son of God, (John 20:31-32). “No one need look upon the sin against the Holy Ghost as something mysterious and indefinable. The sin against the Holy Ghost is the sin of persistent refusal to respond to the invitation to repent” (The Review and Herald, June 29, 1897). According to But the Jewish people do not believed Jesus. They harden their heart and the eyes were blind, that is why they do not see and they do not understand with their heart. No matter that not believeth Jesus, but the unwillingness to believe the miracles and Jesus is the Jewish or Pharisees part (John 12:37-40). The Holy Spirit speak to our heart but we do not want to follow the guidance of the Spirit and the unbelieveness, Satan never lead to believe Jesus. So the unbelieveness of Jesus lead to eternal punishment. Therefore, I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don’t see, and hearing, they do not hear, neither do they understand.(Matthew 13:13) how much Jesus doing miracle through the Holy Spirit, if we harden our heart, it is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In Hebrew 3:7 said that “therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, today if you will hear his voice, do not harden your heart as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness.” So, the harden of the heart is the rebellion of the Holy Spirit. If anyone who want to taste the goodness of the heavenly gift, they will partaker of the Holy Spirit (Hebrew 6:4-5). Partaker with the Holy Spirit will taste the goodness of the heavenly gift. The Holy Spirit, to do three things, but if we do not follow the teaching  all things that are good, do not accept His empower to remember all things that are good and denied His equip for the ministry, this is very dangerous the human life in this world and the world to come.

II.    Unpardonable Sin
The unpardonable sin is the sin, who does not confess and does not repent that can not be forgive. In 1 John 1:9  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” When we read the book of Acts chapter 5 , we can see about Ananias and his wife Sapphira, they are lying to the Holy Spirit. They kept some part of the money of the land that they sold for the ministry, they are pretending to given all that they obtain the money from selling the land (v 1-4). They were insincere in giving, they want to reveal themselves more doing then they are. It gives us today who seek the face of Jesus, who are pretending that they really believe, but God know the inner heart and mind of men. We can see the life of Ananias and Sapphire. They lie the church and the pastor Peter, it is against the Holy spirit, and they were died immediately. The human being forgot that they were in the house of God or in the Church.(v.9) The two husband and wife trying to tempted God by using Satan in their heart. God does not like the lying and telling to his servants and to his church. He likes His church to pure, clean and holy. That is why, I want you to remind those who read this sermon, take a serious of the sin and the rebellion regarding the Holy Spirit. When Ananias telling lie to peter is telling lie to the Holy Spirit and to the God. If we  summarize what it is that constitutes blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. These are against and harm those who have the prophetic gifts. For example Ellen G. White. And misleading and guiding the innocent people to the wrong way from the truth. (Manuscript 30, March 1890, par. 16, 17). "No one need look upon the sin against the Holy Ghost as something mysterious and indefinable.  The Sin against the Holy Ghost is the sin of persistent refusal to respond to the invitations to repent." - Review & Herald, June 29, 1897.
Conclusion
In my conclusion, I hope we all understand more about sins again the Holy Spirit the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, the unpardonable sin for the human. We should be on guard less we reject the testimony of the Holy Spirit in unbelief and refusing the gospel. And want to do the sin tempted by Satan and disobedience. These are very serious things that we forget in our life. Also, discouraging to serve God and falling in work for God. The spirit invites us not to do the bad things but we did not accept what the Holy Spirit guide to the way of salvation to be saved. Revelation 22:17.
Appeal
Everyone who hear and read this sermon, we understand already the sins against the holy spirit and the unpardonable sin. So, please cleanse our heart to accept the gospel, confess your sins and hot tempers, accept the truth and repent from your sin. The Holy Spirit want to lead and guide us the way to salvation to be saved. Do not resist the holy spirit who is calling you not to do the sin and the bad thing. May the good Lord bless you all to understand the sins against the Holy Spirit and the unpardonable sin. God bless you all! Amen

Understanding The Personality of the Holy Spirit by Khup Khen Thang

Sia Khup Khen Thang
Purpose: To understand more about the Holy Spirit
Key text: John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Introduction:
I want to share about the Holy Spirit because as the Holy Spirit seldom described in the bible in neutral position, like airstream or spirit, some have determined that he was neutral and a kind of heavenly supremacy. In their opinion, the Holy Spirit is more similar with electrical neither than standing as a particular Existence. But we have to know that this sermon will bring more understand about the personality of the Holy Spirit. And it will show the scriptures we need to know regarding about the personality of the Holy Spirit and to know more thorough image in our mind. The Bible truth will support us a better understand the part of God’s heavenly Spirit in our life.

Body
I.          Personality of the Holy Spirit
We need to think deeply about the Holy Spirit, who is as much a person as God is a person and this thought is begin by the principles. The Holy Spirit bear witness to God, only a person can bear witness. In 1 Corinthians 2:9 we read, “‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him’ - but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9-11). The evidence of the Holy Spirit is a real person and the personal
I want to proof that the Holy Spirit is a real person is from the fact that personality evidences from the scriptures are as the followings:
      1)      The Holy Spirit is spoken of as having understanding. (I Corinthians 2:9-11)
      2)      The Holy Spirit is spoken of as having a will. (I Corinthians 12:11.)
      3)      The Holy Spirit is spoken of as having power.( Romans 15:13)
      4)      The Holy Spirit is credited with acts and deeds; therefore, he must be a person. (Genesis 1)
      5)      The Holy Spirit is credited with influencing and moving men to write and speak the Word of God; therefore, he must be a person. (2 Peter 1:21)
      6)      The Holy Spirit is credited with regenerating the soul; therefore, he must be a person. (Ephesians 2:1)
By looking these scriptures, the Holy Spirit can understand like the people, He has a will, we works within human beings. He influences us to speak the God’s word and the good deed in our life. He also regenerating the souls, therefore he is a person.

II.       Jesus’ Explanation of the Holy Spirit
Jesus concerned his disciples, he does not want to leave alone like an orphans. But He vowed to give another Helper or Comforter. The words that Jesus uses here are important. He vowed to give another Helper, not the unlike one. The Greek word for "another" is "allos." It means Jesus will send another comforter. In the Greek language of the New Testament "allos" indicates that Christ will send another comforter who is statistically well-defined but the same character, alike with Jesus.  In other hand, Jesus vowed to give one very similar with Him. The one who will the place of him, and to continue the work of Christ among us. Helping and comforting others is the work of the Holy Spirit. In the text used the Greek word “parakletos” (John 14:16) it means to show somebody is named to help and to support other or someone. Jesus is a Person, Holy Spirit is also personal, and this is the scripture show in the Bible. ( John 14:26, 15:26, Acts 15:28).
Be in harmony with Jesus, the Holy Spirit leads, speaks, perceives, reveals the truth, and exalts Jesus (John 16:13, 14).
1.      The Holy Spirit moreover explain and repeat us (John 14:26).
2.       He abides in us (John 14:17),
3.      He give evidences (John 15:24, 26) and
4.       He condemns (John 16:8).
These are more complete in the personality than neutral, Jesus explains to us about the Holy Spirit clearly for us through his life and the scriptures.

III. The Holy Spirit does like the people do
1) Teaches (John 14:26; John 16:12-14)
When we read the texts, that the Holy Spirit, who is called the Spirit of truth, teaches and guides the believer into all truths. In these passages, the Holy Spirit is set forth as teacher of the truth who personally comes to us to teach us the truth, not a mere illumination that enables our mind to see the truth.

2) Guides
The Holy Spirit is represented in Romans 8:14 as our personal guide who takes us by the hand to direct and lead us into doing things that are pleasing to God. We can see in Acts 16:6-7, we see the Holy Spirit taking command of the life and conduct of a servant of Jesus Christ when He did not permit Paul and his companions to preach in Asia and Bithyna. We also see the Holy Spirit calling men to work and appointing them to office in Acts 13:2 and Acts 20:28.
3) Comforts
We are told in John 14:16-17 that the Holy Spirit is to be “another Comforter” who would take the place of our Savior Jesus Christ who has gone back to be with the Father. The word translated “comforter” means so much more than just the word itself and that is why the revisers found a great deal of difficulty in translating the Greek word.
The Greek word “parakleetos” means one who stands by your side as your helper, counselor, comforter and friend. Jesus Himself had been the parakleetos to His disciples; the one who stood by their side “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” – John 14:18. When Jesus was about to leave the disciples, He said that He would not leave them orphaned (John 14:18), but that He would pray the Father to send them another Comforter to take His place. It wouldn’t have made sense for Jesus to say this if the One who was going to take His place was only an influence or power and not a person.

Conclusion
In my conclusion, I hope that all of you understand more about the Holy Spirit deeper in your life. The Scriptures make it plain that the Holy Spirit is a Person. I honestly think that most of us believe this. But do we really delight Him as a person in our real thoughts and in our practical attitude towards Him? Do we really believe Him as a real person as the God the Father?  Do we regard Him as a real person as Jesus Christ, worthy of our love, adoration and surrender? Do we persistently walk in conscious communion with Him? Understanding the doctrine of the personality of the Holy Spirit is of the highest importance because if we think of the Holy Spirit only as an impersonal power or influence, we will be constantly thinking about how to get hold of and use Him. But if we acknowledge the Holy Spirit as a divine Person, we will be always thinking about how He can get hold of and use us. The Holy Spirit not only walks by our side every moment of every day; He will dwell among in our hearts and lives and is always ready to take complete possession of our lives.

Appeal:
I want to invite you to fully submitted and surrendered our life to the Holy Spirit is the secret of a real Christian life, a life of fullness, joy, power and liberty. Believe him He is a real God as of the Father, Son. He will dwell among us to lead in the right way to heaven and will teach divine things. Be ready to receive and let your heart to enter in your heart and mind. He will lead to the heavenly home.
May the good Lord bless you all and guide you to understand more about the Holy Spirit. May the guidance and leading, molding your life for heaven. God bless you all! Amen
